Canopi Resort (Natra Bintan), Bintan

Known for its glamping experience, my family headed to Canopi resort (now known as Natra Bintan) in Bintan back in April 2018.

Getting There

We departed from Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal to the ferry terminal in Bintan. It was about a 50 – 60 minutes ride.

The resort provides free shuttle from the ferry terminal to the resort. Just look out for the staff near the entrance of the terminal.

Address: Treasure Bay Bintan, Jl. Raya Haji No.Km 1, Sebong Lagoi, Tlk. Sebong, Bintan Island, Kepulauan Riau 29152, Indonesia

Accommodation

We booked a Garden Tent, which is slightly further from the lagoon area. We took a buggy to get there, but it is also possible by walking. Spot the small stone pail for you to wash your feet before going in at the entrance of your tent.

Both the interior and exterior are really nice, and well-maintained. The room comes with amenities that are exactly like what you find in a hotel. Even the floor was fitted to the theme, as it had a rope like feel to it. The air-con was quite cold.

The toilets has the open-aired concept. So, be prepared to feel cold if you bathe in the evening after doing all sorts of activities or in the morning.

Each booking comes with a pair of complimentary breakfast passes at the restaurant. Food was average.

But the best part about the accommodation is the common area outside your tent. For the Garden Tent, we could ride on the common swing, and enjoy our food by the garden-aesthetic pavilion.

We also had a dinner buffet by the lagoon, but we had to book it in advanced. The annoying thing was that you only get one free glass of juice, and you have to pay for even water, which is a rip-off.

Activities

This resort had so many land and water activities. They had segway rides, firefly tour, mangrove kayaking, and even VR rides. We tried the airsoft gun (which is illegal in SG).

We also did the ATV ride, which was fun because it was a long ride, and we went through the forest , in between the trees and on rocky terrain.

We could also rent a scooter to travel around the resort, and you don’t need a license to do so!

The water activities had plenty of rides, with some suited for families with small kids, or adults looking for a big splash.

Family-friendly bumper boat ride

The Floating Watersport Park:

Or try some wakeboarding or flying fish…

Or my favourite – the Slip n Slide! This is so worth the money because you pay for unlimited rides all day. It is a short slide but packs a punch, as you fly in the sky and try to land without toppling!

But you can also swim and relax at the lagoon. They have humongous beach side chairs which makes you feel like a mermaid out of water.

There is also a shuttle bus to Lagoi Mall at specific timings if you want to do a little shopping or explore out of the resort.

We just chilled at one of the restaurants in Lagoi Mall. There weren’t many shops to look at.

As you can tell from all the activities, I was very sun-kissed.

Overall Experience

The Good

  • A good introduction to glamping.
  • Pleasing aesthetics and surroundings.
  • Lagoon was calm, clear and a beautiful blue, which wasn’t filled with saltwater.
  • They had many land and sea activities to keep you occupied.
  • A great place to have your own picnic, and for large group gatherings.

The Bad

  • The activities were not very safe, especially the water sport park. There were no lifeguards, or supervision in the area.
  • Staff were not very friendly and had an arrogant disposition (but I suppose this is subjective).
  • Tent had an uncomfortable floor, as it is made of a rope like material.
  • Sound proofing is absolutely terrible, I could hear the neighbours talking and watching tv.
  • A bit stingy with the F&B and slow service, especially at the restaurant in the lobby.

When work and life gets overwhelming for you, nothing chases the stress away better than a relaxing getaway to soothe your mind, body and soul.
