Verdict
#1 Great Service
We went a week before my mum’s birthday, so we were not expecting anything. Was surprised to see a birthday cake in the room!

We also had a really smooth check-in and check-out. They would send an email a few days before to get us to fill a pre-arrival check-in form, so they only needed to pass our room key cards upon arrival. When we checked out, all we needed to do was drop the card, and the invoice will be sent via email, received within half an hour.
We ordered in-room dining to use up our $100 dining vouchers, and didn’t need to pay anything extra too (although I thought we had to pay a bit more as it exceeded the voucher amount).
So overall, it was a very chill and relaxing staycay because everything was fuss-free, and we can focus on ourselves.
#2 Great Room, except for the bathtub
Our room was the Signature King Suite with Balcony, so I guess there is nothing much to complain about!
The bed was the best, it was soft and so I easily fell asleep. Besides that, there were so many chairs which made me feel like I should sit on them every once in a while on all of them haha. The room also comes with ethernet cables, fast WiFi, many TV channels and chrome cast to watch netflix/youtube etc on the tv.

Our room received the morning sun, and we can only see a mirror of the sunset as we had the city view room, not the MBS side. While the balcony is narrow, and you can’t really do much there, we did have fun trying to capture our moments.
The bathroom came with both a showerhead and bathtub. However, the bathtub’s plug malfunctioned, and kept draining the water when we tried to fill the tub. We had to bypass it by sitting down on the plug. Quite an experience.

#3 Food was Okay
We ordered in-room dining for our first night, and breakfast (which was part of the package) the next day.
*Do note that in room dining is halal, except for food items from Prego restaurant, which refer to the pastas and pizzas.

There were five types of breakfast sets to choose from, and we could either scan a QR code or call to order. The QR code was difficult to put an order for the free breakfast, so we ended up calling. They were very nice and pleasant to talk to, and kindly explained to us the halal options.

Service was fast and we received it in less than an hour for dinner, and was on time, slightly early when they served our breakfast at the timing that we requested.
Breakfast was not amazing or anything, and the hot drinks were lukewarm, but it made us full.
#4 Limited Amenities
The only complaint I had was that it was difficult to get a booking for their fitness centre and swimming pool. The timings were always fully booked, and it felt like we need to book it way in advanced, days before we check in. This wouldn’t make sense in my case as it was a free and easy itinerary.

Do note that the South Tower has been designated as a Stay Home Designated Facility (and our Olympic swimmers and badminton players who just came back seemed to be staying there for their SHN!). This wasn’t an issue at all, as the connected areas were blocked on all levels.
#5 Nearby Attractions
Many places are within walking distance. This was good as we didn’t need to waste money on multiple grab rides, and we can easily push my mum’s wheelchair around.
Some reccomendations:
- Funan
Support the local shops, watch some theatre and more! It is also good place for halal food options.

We kept buying churros from Churros Republic on all 3 days of our staycay. As Singapore’s only Michelin Preferred Churros, naturally we had to try it! They also sell butterscotch brew like which reminds me of the time I tried the butter beer at Harry Potter world in Osaka.
- National Gallery

If you are not aware, I absolutely love museums and all things artsy futsy (even if I may not understand it). Since it is a staycay, I managed to steer my family to “explore” the area and visit some of the exhibitions that I wanted to see! Also enticed them with an offer to help take some OOTD photos.
Only the App is quite useless, and I couldn’t locate the artwork I wanted to see and gave up and enjoyed the rest of the exhibitions. As usual, they found it boring, but I like the place.
- Peninsula
If you want to find denim and vintage leather shop, look no further: https://www.facebook.com/preloveddenim/
My brother bought 2 pairs of jeans that fits him perfectly for $6 a pair. And everyone likes the friendly and nice uncle, plus you can try on the jeans. But there are also many small shops that you can also support at the basement and ground level!!!

- Raffles City
The shopping mall nearest to the hotel, and has the Marketplace and the Cocoa Trees, which is the only place that sells Hawaiian Host chocolate brand, my mum’s favourite.
- Esplanade

If your staycay is over the weekend, there are usually some performances in the foyer or on the outdoors stage pre-COVID. But I think the foyer stages still continue during this period and you can hang out and chill by the bay and walk along the bridge to view the merlion etc. Very nice place to relax and take in the cheery atmosphere at night.

There are a few muslim-owned eateries at Esplanade like Noosh and Jiak Modern Tzechar.
- Suntec City
If you are sick of Raffles City, the next best option is Suntec which is much bigger, and links to Marina Square too. Many shopping options!
- Clarke Quay
For party-goers in good times without COVID-19, this would be the go-to place. Or for those music fest lovers, there are usually gigs happening there. Speaking of Clarke Quay, I have yet to try the G-max ride there.
Overall, a wonderful staycay, complete with some wine-looking root beer kind of vibes.

Guess a good thing about COVID is that you get to enjoy a vacation at home. Happy National Day in advanced, Singapore!
