8-Day Bangkok Travel Guide: Shopping Spots, Fan Activities, and Sights

Bangkok, I knew I would love you, and I loved you even more after seeing you in person!

The trip was easily the most tiring, exciting, and fulfilling holiday for 2024. Personally, there were so MANY things to do in Bangkok. But the limited time made me appreciate the experience even more.

Check out the trip’s food list here!

Expect this post to be a travel diary plus fan adventure trip. I would not recommend this itinerary for the faint-hearted. Let’s jump straight into it!

Notes

  • The trip was a two-person trip in August 2024.
  • We mostly used public transport, and saved us a lot of time.
  • You have to cater more time to explore a place thoroughly.
  • You can use Promptpay via Paylah – there is no foreign exchange fee or credit card fee. PayNow is not accepted.

Day 1, Wed

Touch down! @ Suvarnabhumi Airport

At the extended arrival hall, we took a tram to the main hall and breezed through immigration thanks to the many open counters. The friendly officer chatted with me when I was answering her question on the purpose of visit in Thai. However, waiting for our Grab took about half an hour and cost 468 baht, while the ride back to the airport was 643 baht (XL car option).

The driver will ask if you would like to take the highway, which meant additional toll fees. It was cute how the highways and tolls resembled Malaysia’s. Bangkok’s marketing game was strong with billboards, digital panels, and posters displayed on tall buildings the moment we started the journey.

At one point, our driver skillfully navigated through side lanes to overtake cars, just as the traffic police drove by!

Checked in at Siam@Siam Design Hotel Bangkok

We dropped our bags at the hotel and set out to explore the Land of Smiles. Our hotel was just a 5-minute walk to National Stadium BTS and 10-minute walk to Siam Square. There were also plenty of conveniences nearby, including a McDonald’s, a Lotus supermarket, and a 7-Eleven.

The room, view, and restaurant were an absolute vibe! There were live jazz or DJ nights for guests, many aesthetic corners around the hotel, and a sunset view from the room! You could watch the roads stretch to the highway and students having a football match at the National Stadium right across. The breakfast spread was top-notch.

Could not resist snapping photos of the signature Bangkok sign on the BTS track that goes through the sky bridge in Siam. This may be a simple bridge that connects you to multiple shopping centres, but it is more than that for a fangirl.

This is THE place to catch fan projects on MBK’s LED screen, meet your favourite artistes for fan gatherings, observe blessing ceremonies for upcoming drama series, and even bump into celebrities! (Was super lucky to have done the last two on Day 8!)

Shop and eat @ MBK CENTER

MBK is mostly known for electronics, souvenirs, customized stationery, clothes, accessories, and cosmetics. Bargaining is a must if you want to purchase anything, but keep in mind that most items are replicas. There were some pretty clothes, cute bags, and decent casual wear. EVEANDBOY at MBK was huge, so we were able to find most things that we wanted, and it was not as crowded as the one at Siam Square.

Only pity was not being able to locate Hunter Village, but all good.

Be the it girl @ EmSphere

EmSphere was only about five BTS stops away from MBK, at Phrom Phong. After exiting, walk straight ahead on the connecting bridge to reach EmSphere.

There was a reason we visited EmSphere on Day 1:

  • Recce and buy ButterBear goods
  • Visit Jackson Wang’s Club 21 Pop Up Store
  • 3 celebrity events in the same mall
  • Shopping! Most shops we wanted to check out were here

EmSphere was like a wonderland with many surprises. There were so many local brands to explore that we missed some even after visiting twice – and it’s not even the biggest mall in Bangkok!

We popped by Jackson Wang’s I See The Light pop-up. It had a simple and bright set-up, though the clothes and prices were not appealing (for us, at least).

Next, we joined the crowd at Sphere Gallery to see actor Gulf Kanawut. He was absolutely gorgeous in person. I made sure to take in the wonderful sight. We even heard him singing a few songs as we shopped, and there was a fan gathering after.

We also managed to see Tu Tontawan at the Panpuri opening pop-up. There were fewer fans here, and they were not fussy or screaming for Tu. And we managed to see her up-close within 100m!

She was stunning, bubbly, and chill – such a pleasant experience watching her work.

We waited for another CP that was attending a car event, but gave up as it took too long (Thai events often start late).

We of course, made a visit to the GENTLEWOMAN store, and after much thought, bagged away two bags with no regrets!

We also checked out Asia Books, popular shops like Frank Garcon, Daddy and the Muscle Academy, Leisure Project etc. Most stores here were less crowded compared to their other branches, so it was an enjoyable shopping experience. Boots and Watsons here were also designed like boutique stores at this high-end mall.

And finally, ButterBear. We queued for about 20 minutes to enter the store. It was a mad rush trying to make sure I had accounted for everything I wanted to buy, while still getting in those selfies. As if it wasn’t enough, I had already ordered some items on LINE app before I even flew to Bangkok.

@callmif4

Prices of #Butterbear items are not for the faint-hearted. The merch is definitely cute, but how tasty the baked goods are is dependent on your tastebuds! #ด้อมน้องเนย You can buy some of the items on LINE shopping app or head to the physical store (do note that paylah and sg credit cards do not work on the LINE app)

As the shops started closing, we headed home on the BTS. Despite carrying loads of items, the train was still our best option. It was really fun to see the streets alive at night, including a walking gundam and a violinist busking on the streets.
